Can any one Please suggest which Open source monittoring tool is very effective for monitring Ubuntu server.
The monitoring tool needs to have mailing or messaging facility to send the alerts.

Please suggest me...

incomplete list: Naggios, Zabbix, Munin
They all differ a lot so, you should check them out.

Also Canoninal is offering a commercial monitoring service at https://landscape.canonical.com/ .
