Real player files : don't work, and no program opens them!

Asked by shero1

I've installed Real Player 11 Gold since I've decided to switch to Linux. Right after I've installed Ubuntu 12.04, all files with the rm extension didn't work.. The program gave me the error message : Cannot open the audio device, another application (which I really don't know) may be using it.

What I can do to make my Real player works once more? If there is no alternative, What are the other programs which can open *.rm files? How can I remove RP? Could this removal harm my PC and/ or files?

Have you seen?: "RealPlayerInstallationMethods" - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RealPlayerInstallationMethods

"The RealPlayer11GOLD.deb file may be available as an archive on 3rd party websites. The version available in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid is still contained in the Medibuntu repositories and can be downloaded..."

Hi there,

I think, that you could solve your problem to run this command: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
It will install some usefull applications to run Ubuntu safely.

Another alternatieve to play RM files on Linux in to install media player called mplayer( sudo apt-get install mplayer ).

If this helps you solve your question, please mark thread as solved.
