In Ubuntu you install additional software via the Ubuntu Software Center. If your using Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity you can find the Ubuntu Software Center icon in the left hand side of your screen in the Launcher. Images of this can be found in the following links. Generally speaking there are Linux alternatives to Windows proprietary software. You can use Wine, http://www.winehq.org/ , to install Windows applications in Ubuntu. If you are interested in Photoshop you may want to install and check out GIMP http://www.gimp.org/
