software update will not download. Failed to fetch
Software update will not work - keeps returning error message of" Failed to fetch" and "Failed to download package files". "Check internet connection". Internet connection is OK as I am using it to log this problem! Any ideas?

Thanks very much for your interest.
I tried as you suggested. Following occurred-
Reading package list....Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information.
E: Unable to locate package update
Then the $ prompt returns.
Also tried to download the Kino program via the Software Centre with similar
result ie failed to download package files.

Everything fine there.
Now please post output of:
sudo apt-get upgrade
For future case if package management has a hiccup switch to 'main server'.

Sam following is the last page of the output and to this amateur it appears
that the download was successful - plus I was also now able to download
Kino! I don't know what caused the problem but it is now fixed. Many thanks
for your assistance in this case and for keeping Ubuntu going.
Cheers
Charles

Well done charles.
Sometimes servers aren't synced so fast, it just needs a little patience then and try a bit later again.
If your issue is solved and since you reply via email, please return to your question
https:/
and mark it as "solved". Thanks.

Sorry to trouble you more Sam. But I can't access my account to close this.
Turns out I have two Forum ID's and the one I used for this problem is
stuffed. And I can't find where on the Forum to tell the administrators
about it. Where should I go to advise them?
