problem with skype and hdmi on 12.04

Asked by Ian Brownlie

Hi guys, my daughter has an 'hp' computer with dual boot. Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 7. With skype, the headset microphone does not work with 12.04 but works fine on windows 7. Again when she connects via hdmi cable to her telvision, all is fine with windows, yet with 12.04 there is no sound from the tv and the screen settings for ubuntu go crazy (fonts are waaay too big). I would very much like some advice and help with this one.I was right at the point of getting her to switch to ubuntu. Now she aint sure. Thanks Ian..

Sound coming out of the TV isn't really skype specific. It's just sound.

Can you give the output of:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh && ./alsa-info.sh

Thanks

dmesg
lcpci
lsmod
aplay
amixer
alsactl
/proc/asound/
/sys/class/sound/
~/ .asoundrc (etc)
I was referring to sound on tv from dvd not skype. I think it's obvious the problem lies with 12.04. Everything works fine on windows. More's the pity... Ian

Can you run the whole command and select to upload to the server. A URL will be generated. What is the URL please

What Windows does is of absolutely zero value, it is a different OS with dfferent support...pity

Try:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8850924/alsa-info.sh; chmod +x ./alsa-info.sh; ./alsa-info.sh

Try that instead.
