Conecting to skype using ubuntu 8.01,I am a complete beginner

I have tried to download Skype on to my pc,I am using ubuntu 8.01.It appears to download but nothing else happens.As I am a copmplete beginner,can anyone please advice whether I can use skype and if I can How do I do this

Yes, you can use skype. Just install it from the software repositories "software centre".

As a complete beginner,I do not understand this answer.Where do I find software repositories?

Dont forget that you need to enable the "canonical partner repository", as discussed in the link I put up at first.
This is the instructions for doing that (also discussed in the link in my original post)
