Backport 1.10.0 to Ubuntu 12.04LTS

Asked by Raubvogel

With 1.10.0, simplesamlphp began supporting Kerberos (using SPNEGO), as mentioned in http://code.google.com/p/simplesamlphp/source/browse/trunk/modules/negotiate/docs/negotiate.txt?r=3038. Now Ubuntu 12.04LTS is as the name implies long term version, which is more qualified to server role. As such, the latest versions of server-related applications should always be backported to it.

At least that is my take. ;)

The latest versions rarely make the LTS. The LTS is about stability, not the latest apps. If the benefits of updated packages are great (bug and security fixes) then it will be updated. If the gains are small then it will be upgraded later. If you report a bug with your recommendation, the guys acan analyse the gains to see if it should be updated but more important packages with larger issues will be updated sooner. to make the OS more stable.

Just because the LTS is for servers does not mean it should have the latest versions. It will only get them if their is a necessity. Server engineers want solid performance and fewer crashes. This is what LTS is all about.
