Backed up daily with Simple Backup Suite, how to restore in 12.04 unstable

Asked by ealthuis

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 beta1, while doing so I also eradicated my /home directory.

Well no problem, I have backups, a full one on Friday 2 Mar '12 and two incremental ones.

When I went to restore the home directory I foud that Simple Backup Suite is NOT available in Ubuntu 12.04.

My question is what program will restore from these Backup file?

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/backup-and-restore-your-ubuntu-system-using-sbackup.html

The menu will now all be in dash, but should be named the same...

I was successfull installing Sbackup. however, while attempting to restore my lost files, i managed to connect to the backed up files (they are on a different system), but restore would not make "Restoration Management" available, it remais grayed out.

My problem is not quite solved, I need to know what I am missing in the restore job.

Sweet, glad you are backing up too. You have no idea how often and infuriating it is when people come saying their 'important' data is at risk when their system becomes unstable / failing drive etc and there is no backup.

Thank you for renewing me view that people are smart enough to backup.

Backing up data has been pumped into me since the mid 70's. I at that time installed operating systems in Digital computers and my most important advise to the operators was: Baclup every day. It saved the day a few times.

Now I stil do and Sbackup has proven to work. It requires a bit of thinking, but it completely restored my /home directory and thereby my system

Thanks for pointing me into the right direction.
