installed and running canon MP280 printer and scanner, but cannot recognize the scanner.

installed the printer canon MP280 which has integrated scanner and printer. the ubuntu is recognizing the printer as well as we printed the test page. When I tried to use the scanning program i.e. Xsane or simple scan, it says that the scanner cannot be found.
what is missing? how can i make the canon work as a scanner?

Did you try the Canon Europe website for drivers? They do support Linux for most of their range of products.
