I can not download anything it says to authenticate but when i put my password it would not go

I want to download games software music from the ubuntu software but when I clicked on what I want to download and put install it says to remove or install software i need to authenticate i put the password for root but it says it was unsuccessful. I just installed ubuntu and I dont know why this is going on. PLEASE HELP!

If you have forgot the root password , you can reset it .
