where could i find documentation and/or plugins for this applet?

I see the applet should accept plugins for different types of services. Where can I find out more about these?

which applet is it..

you could try typing....

man #appletname

replacing #appletname with the applets name of course

I thought I posted the question under the package name. It's service-discovery-applet, and no, there's no man page for it.

So... where are the plugins or the docs? I only see the source packages at the link you gave, which I suppose are available in the Ubuntu repositories, too.

There may be liitle or no docs for this applet. I looked in the source code repository. Also, check /usr/share/doc on your system. And if that fails, go here: http://www.avahi.org/wiki/Avah4users#Documentation
