new version of scilab is also available on its website. But in repository of ubuntu 8.10rc ,there is a old version of scilab. Can you get never version of scilab for repositoy.

ubuntu 8.10 is now in feature freeze which means that packages arn't generally upgraded to new versions (apart from extra special cases) so that bugs can be found and fixed
