DAAP share not playing in rhythmbox [karmic beta]

Asked by Benjamin McGough

Trying out karmic beta rhythmbox on client and mt-daapd on server. mt-daapd streams to my Roku OK, but cannot stream to rhytmbox - I get "Unable to start playback pipeline" errors. I can connect to the daap share, and find songs, but playing fails. Running rhythmbox in debug, I see this:

If I take that URI (daap://192.168.42.1:3689/databases/1/items/6739.ogg?session-id=3) replace 'daap' with 'http' and put it into a Firefox address bar, it plays the song. I can also play the same file in Rhythmbox if I copy it onto local disk and add it to the library. So it seems that mt-daapd is working, ogg playback is working, but they don't work together.

How do I get more information about why it is failing?

I'm a complete newbe to Unbuntu (using 9.10) and had the same problem. Uninstall Rhythmbox and re-install from the Software Center - fixed this for me.

Sorry this won't help you with finding the cause of this specific problem, but it could work if you just want to get Rhythmbox working.

I also had this problem on 9.10 with rhythmbox. Reinstalling changed the error message but it still wouldn't play, so I tried Banshee and it can handle it without a problem.

Can you help with this problem?
