why does rhythmbox not use indicator applet

Asked by benste

You all know that since I guess jaunty we've got this nice cannonical tool called indicator applet to show up bubbles for changes of brightness, volume, status of IMs, new incoming IMs and so on, wouldn't it be possible that so wirtes an plugin for rhytmbox which would be included through the ubuntu-desktop package to make rhytmbox use the same notification area like other programs ?

The original rhytmbox bubble which is using Dbus as far as I know doesn't really fit into my desktop experience what about yours?

If you use gnome-panel's "music mini-apple" it will work
Right-click on the panel - Add to the panel - Search the music mini-applet (add it, select your favorite player and set the applet to show notifications)

I thought that it was installed by default. You can see some screenshots (notifications are replcace with the new indicator applet) on the next web:
http://www.kuliniewicz.org/music-applet/

To install:
sudo aptitude install music-applet

Then: Right-click on the panel - Add to the panel - Search the "music applet" (I really don't know how it's called in english)
(add it, select your favorite player and set the applet to show notifications)

Hope that helps, Sorry for my english.

Thanks a lot, this applet is really nice, I sure that i'll install it on my next reinstall for karmic.
Also I'll write a blogpost about it.

Last question, now I've got this applet in my panel, do you know how I could hide the rhytmbox applet in the notification area ?

I do not have this applet installed but I have notifications for Rhythmbox. So I dug around my settings and this is what I have.

In Rhythmbox under Edit -> Plugins I have the 'Minimize to Tray' option checked.

This creates a Rhythmbox icon in the top panel Notification Area.

Right-click on the icon and you will see the option 'Show Notifications'

duanedesign thanks for taking the time to reply here in this post.
I've you'll read more closely I already have this notifications, but they're not fitting the notify OSD which is used in jaunty and karmic.

pablito already gave me a nice hint which works perfect to display those notifications within the notify OSD used by indicator-applet. So this first part is done.

the 2nd not yet answered question is now how I could get rhytmbox out uf the system tray, it's exactly the icon used for minimizing but even if I disable it it doesn't hide.

Click on it (rhytmbox icon) and it appears rhytmbox window , if you click again the windows dissapear to systray ;-).
To close; right-click and close

Experimtent a bit ;-)

ehm I wasn't talking about minimizing to tray - you're right for this case experimenting is a minimum to do - what I already did.

I want to have an opened rhytmbox minimize OR not which doesn't appear in the syspanel
possibly it's something within Gconf but I don't know where to search
