its simple
try testdisk
type in terminal the following one after the previous is completed:

sudo apt-get install alien

wget http://www.cgsecurity.org/testdisk-6.10-1.i386.rpm (or check for the latest version of testdisk from the website)

sudo alien testdisk-6.10-1.i386.rpm

sudo dpkg -i testdisk_6.6-2_i386.deb

once all of the above operations are done one by one and one at a time, then its done.

you have now installed the softwares needed.

change the folder to which you want to recover those music files of yours.
for example if you want to put files on desktop then ::

cd /home/(your username)/Desktop/

remember to type the "D" in Desktop capital

now run testdisk by:

sudo testdisk

and maximise the terminal as it needs 25 lines.
it will be run in terminal itself.

steps you shuld follow are:

Choose "create log file"

Select which device to use for me it was /dev/hda

Select "INTEL/PC" Partition

Choose 'Analyze' then 'Proceed' then select 'Search'. TestDisk should now scan your device for partitions
TestDisk should now list a series of partitions.

Select your partition and choose 'List'.

use the right arrow key to go deeper into the folders and left key to come back one by one.

it is very easy.
but as you are a layman dont try anything else.

all deleted files will be in red colour

just select the files or the whole folder and all the files you want to recover and press c
it will ask for confirmation once.
you can only select one entity at a time.
so it better to choose the whole folder if you dont have time.
your wish
best of luck.
and its safe if you do it as i guided.
if you still have problems, feel free to ask me anytime.

Testdisk is ready to install into Ubuntu repository... not need to use rpm and alien...

On Ubuntu simply open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install testdisk

Hope this helps

and ya its sudo dpkg -i testdisk_6.10-2_i386.deb
instead of sudo dpkg -i testdisk_6.6-2_i386.deb

Can you help with this problem?
