rhythmbox-client won't start on radio station

Example:

typing "rhythmbox-client --play-uri=http://www.di.fm/mp3/lounge.pls"

Starts RB, but does not play the radio station. No rhythmbox command or combinatiuon of commands will get it to play the radio station. Sending "stop" followed by "play" will play the first song in the library, but any URI reference to a streaming site does nothing.

If you click "Radio" in the library the URI commands start working, but this only works for the duration of the rhythmbox session.

Running version 3.1.

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy rhythmbox

Then you are using a PPA, not the official package which is known to work. I suggest you contact the PPA maintainer to report the issue.
