Having trouble playing mp3 on disk; last tried audacious

That's about it. I'm trying to listen to this weird take off on Purple Haze called Green Haze. I just saw that it's on youtube so I guess it doesn't matter. Appears to be a group called the Elvis Hitlers doing a mash up of Purple Haze and Green Acres. My sister told me about it. And I think I downloaded the mp3 from some co. that claimed their advertising allowed them to give away downloads. I am curious as to why Audacious and the house Ubuntu player won't play it. I'm trying to learn more about Ubuntu so if you have a theory I'd like to hear it. I also can't get the cd to eject, so there's another issue. Thanks and keep up the good work. I'll make a note of Launchpad for help.

By default Ubuntu can't read mp3 files. This is because of licensing issues. All the software installed is open source and mp3 is a proprietary format.

This is easy to fix however: open a terminal with CTRL+ALT+T then

if you are using Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

If you are using Kubuntu:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras

If you are using Xubuntu:
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-restricted-extras

If you are using Lubuntu:
sudo apt-get install lubuntu-restricted-extras
