alsa / pulseaudio suddenly produces a stange kind of static sound, oss still works(HDA intel STAC92xx)

Asked by Jeroen

alsa / pulseaudio suddenly produces a stange kind of static sound, oss still works.
I'm running a up to date version of ubuntu intrepid on my dell latitude d830 laptop.
I also tried going back a kernell version. No effect.

Sound preferences displays my sound card as HDA intel STAC9205

There might be some conflict between alsa and pulseaudio. I think als is generally the preferred one to keep and so it might be worth using this trouble-shooting guide to help
http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/TroubleShooting

I'm not sure about sound issues tho so good luck with this

Tom :)

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/reposting a question just before america arrives online gives the best chance of getting a good few answers.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved.

Good luck and many regards from
Tom :)

I'm sorry Tom but I don't really have the time at the moment Tom. But I'll be sure to respond any questions on this thread ofcource.
I also think my standard was pulseaudio instead of alsa btw because I could playback sound with multiple programs at the same time, again not sure about that.
I think its very strange that everything was working perfectly untill +- last week, so I'm going to be a mystery for a while untill I have the time to put my teeth into the problem.

I did get the aadebug output though:

We could always use another volunteer to answer questions as they arrive in the "Answers" section at launchpad. Seems like you're probably pretty good at helping people with sound issues by now!
Anyway, good luck and enjoy :)

Tom :)
