Why does the pulse audio volume control interface have to be impossible for a normal human to understand? I went through 4 hours of search, install/remove/install before I accidentally discovered that right click gave me a box to fix my problem.

Pulse audio volume control interface is poorly designed. Right click on the audio playback button and check the drop-down menu to replace Redwood HDMI audio with Internal Audio Analogue Stereo fixes a problem connecting to external speakers on my new ASUS A42J notebook. I spent 4 hours trying to solve this with search and command line fixes that very nearly broke my system (I managed successfully to undo what I'd done). The right click was a pure accident. If there is a reference to it on the Internet, I think I;d have found it.
Can the developers include instructions or make an interface that is easier to understand?
