It's interesting that you removed a fairly significant part of the desktop audio stack as a workaround to an issue (did you report it in Launchpad?), and now things don't work as expected. ;) Please see https:/

I searched all the forums about the crash for pSX and they all indicated to either remove pulseaudio or kill it. I tried to kill it first, but when killall didn't fix the issue, I removed it and still had sound on everything. However, the sound went away after I reinstalled pulseaudio.

Your ALSA output shows the following issue:

Please use gnome-alsamixer to increase volume on the Speaker and Mux channels.
Then retest sound using headphones and speakers.
If that does not help, please try this solution:
1. Open a terminal and use the gedit editor to edit /etc/modprobe.
Run the following command in a Terminal:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.
When the file is open, please add the following 3 lines to the end of the file after "options snd-pcsp index=-2"
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1 enable_msi=1
2. Save/close and reboot
This will probably only give sound through the laptop speakers, but not via the headphones. Still, better than no sound at all.
