How do we get latest release available to upstream, in my 16.04... I am still getting 0.11.0+ds-1

This whole packaging thing is unknown dimension for me. But I feel like we have a situation here.

node-exporter releases on github lists (v0.14.0 / 2017-03-21) as the latest one, but our upstream is obsolete with 0.11 version.

So I wanna know few stuffs like :

1. how to update the upstream inventory... can I volunteer, if yes guide me via... I would love to
2. the overview section shows 0.13 build succeed, but why I couldn't apt it ?
3. Isn't there some automated build process for all of this, like packaging, testing stuffs.

I haven't gone through any of official docs regard to this all packaging thingi, (which I would later). But I guess we can automate some part of it for sure.

I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then the package will be updated sooner rather than later.

In the LTS releases the packages will often be left as they are designed to be stable and solid in favor of getting the latest packages in.

Ubuntu is not a rolling release distribution so this also happens in the non-LTS releases too but to only a slightly lesser degree. If you always want to be up to date then use a rolling release but they will be less stable by definition.

There may be a PPA but it will come with the usual caveats of PPAs

Hi, my suggestion would be to give the following instructions a go: https://serverfault.com/a/127148

That is, you add the Debian stretch-backports (which currently has the prometheus-node-exporter 0.16.0 available) repo to your sources.list (or in sources.list.d) as deb-src and then you rebuild the package straight from source as per the link above.
