Ubuntu Software Center: PostgreSQL

Asked by Chaz

Ubuntu Software Center seems to have every package associated with PostgreSQL except the database itself.
The PostgreSQL web site states that it is included in all Ubuntu releases.
How do I get it installed?

Thanks for the link.
Lots of information there but difficult to match up with my system.
I'm running 12.04 LTS Desktop.
The releases mentioned on the site you provided have names instead of numbers.
Also the PostgreSQL releases mentioned are 8.x not the current 9.x

Back to the original question: Is it not possible to get the appropriate PostgreSQL database for the 12.04 LTS Ubuntu Desktop using the Ubuntu Software Center ?

I expected there to be an empty package for PostgreSQL like there is for MySQL that pulls the appropriate software from those who maintain it.

Am I missing something here?

I see the package postgresql in the Ubuntu Software Center, which is the meta-package which pulls in the postgresql 9.1 packages. What seems to be the problem?
