Pidgin-yahoo

I cannot sign into Yahoo messenger using pidgin i have tried both using @yahoo.com and leaving it off it just says connecting and never connects but i am able to connect to msn messenger with no problem how can i fix this?

You will find you need to change your messnger server (under advanced settings for the account)

Try changing it to:
scsa.msg.yahoo.com

Yahoo are always changing their servers which doesn't help anyone.

cs101.msg.mud.yahoo.com
Or:
66.163.181.172

Make sure you are using the latest version by using the pidgin PPA:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

add the below 2 lines:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu karmic main

change karmic to another release if you are using a different releases

You will then need to import the GPG key using:
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8

You can now run:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Then try loggin on. If it doesn't work, run:

mv ~/.purple ~/.purple_old

Then rerun the program.
