IM appears on screen first!

SUDDENLY...when I get an IM the complete text appears on the desktop regardless of what screen I am on...
VERY UNDESIRABLE FEATURE!. I do not want to see IM's when I am working on something else.
The little envelope on the menu icon will do just fine.
HOW do I stop this invasive feature...I don't see anyway in the setup...?

Are you talking about the notification bubbles in the upper right hand corner of the screen? If so, these can be disable by doing the following:

1) Open Pidgin
2) Go to Tools->Plugins
3) Scroll to "Libnotify Popups"
4) Uncheck the box next "Libnotify Popups" OR Press "configure" and select which notifications you want to see.
