pidgin package

The pidgin version you are using is too old

I recieved from Pidgin this message :"The client version you are using is too old. Please upgrade at http://pidgin.im/", ang went on http://pidgin.im/ where downloaded "pidgin-2.4.2-icq6.patch" how it was recommended on it. How can I install this patch? Will it fix the problem ?

After renewing my system through Ubuntu Pidgin is all right.
