How do I format a new partition for data?
Asked by
Dave Allen
I have Ubuntu 8,10 and 9.10, but would like to have an independent partition with the file system visible by each. I've made a (logical) partition, called sda12, and have on the desktop a "6,3 GB Media" symbol, with a directory called 'lost and found' which is unreadable. A right-click seems to think it's mounted, offering to unmount it. I assume I should format it, But the command 'fdisk' doesn't recognise '/dev/sda12' as an argument, so does it have another name? What should I do now?
