How do you create a table in Impress

Asked by asicdesign

Sorry for such a basic question, but I don't see any way of creating a table
on a slide (in OpenOffice Presentation aka Impress). The online help mentions
a table wizard, but I don't see any such wizard. None of the menus under
INSERT or FORMAT or TOOLS say anything about a table.

The only option appears to be to insert a Spreadsheet, but I want a simple
table of text, where I can control formats, columns, widths, etc. Just like
in Powerpoint...

I'm using Openoffice 2.4.1 on Ubuntu 8.04.

Are there any modules we may have missed when loading OpenOffice?
Any other ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated.

What is the problem with using a "real table"? Formattin? You can use formatting in tables, too.

Thanks, Rolf.

I don't know what you mean by "real table"?
What is the command or menu selection you use to insert a "real table"?

Wow, I could have sworn it was possible to attach a file to an answer. After all, a picture says more than 1.000 words.

You need to change the layout of your slide like in http://oss.leggewie.org/wip/impress-table.jpg

Thanks again, Rolf.

Okay, so what you're suggesting is to use "Spreadsheets" for tables.
I knew about that option. I just didn't like it much.

Personally, I think it's not as convenient as a text-based table. It's
more cumbersome to make changes, format text, change
indentations, add bullets, insert pictures, etc.

Oh, well.
