Spreadsheet multiplication formuls

I need to multiply the number in grid C5 times the number in D5. Can't figure out the formula. Tried =SUM(C5*D5) but all I got was 3 ###. Also tried =PRODUCT(C5*D5) but it didn't work either.

I am changing from WordPerfect Quatro pro where I was at least competent to OpenOffice.org Calc where I am still learning.

You should use simply =C5*D5

Please ensure that the cell size is large enough to display the result as all three examples would work correctly.
