I need to type in Turkish, how do I change the keyboard? please help

Asked by Enkidux

Hallo everybody,

I'm working with xubuntu with a Spanish keyboard, and I need to type texts in Turkish. Anyone can tell me how to do this, please, I'm sure is such an easy thing that makes me feel very dummy.

I've tried going to applications>settings>keyboard settings and adding Turkish, but once I close the menu it becomes Spanish only again.... grrr :-(

Thanks for all the help you can give me.

Click on System->Preferences->Keyboard

Select the Layouts tab

Click "Add..."

In the Layouts drop-down, select "Turkey"

In the Variants drop-down, you can leave this at "Default"

Click "Add"

Click "Close"

You should now be able to select the Turkish layout in your Keyboard Indicator.

Well,

I did all of that twenty times, and it didn't recognize Turkish, so after a lot of time trying I just switched off the computer in total frustration.

Today I just started xubuntu and ... ta-ta there it is, I can type in Turkish now

I guess I needed to restart the whole thing? don't you think?

Anyway, I guess that solved my problem.

Teşekkür ederim = thanks a lot

You have been very useful. I hope I can help you out some other time

Thank you people! I looked again for Keyboard Layout and found Language Indicator, having previously selected Latin American Spanish under System Perference, Keyboard etc. Yea! No more inserting special characters!! Thanks
