Open office spreadsheet file crashed itself seeking file recovery

I was using Open office Spreadsheet 3.2 and in mostly cases I save it in .xls format. During the work system took the restart itself. After the re- start a message appeared on screen " your system is running on low graphic mode and requires restart. After the restart when file is opened it became crashed and opened file look in .doc format but file is in .xls format all work done on the file got crashed.
Kindly assist me to recover the same as I was working on the same since last one week.

If you open the file and it was not saved there may be a recovery option, also look in the same folder as you store the current file for other files with a similar name. These may have what you need. Otherwise I have no idea personally but others may be able to advise
