Starting OpenOffice Calc with one sheet by default ...

Asked by Petar Milin

Hello ALL!
By default Calc is starting with three sheets, but I would like to open with one only, and then to add sheets if necessary. Is that possible? It is quite easy to do it in Excel, but I do not like MS Windows and MS Office (have them at my job only). I know it is not a big deal, but it annoys me much. If someone can help me, I would appreciate much.

Best,
PM

Hi Petar,

yes you can by default start Calc with 1 sheet and to do it you just create a standard template.
Here's a 'walkthrough' for how to do it in OpenOffice 2.2 if you have a different version the process might be slightly different.

1. Open Calc.
2. Right click sheet 2 and select delete from the pop up menu, and do the same with sheet 3.
Now you have your 1 single sheet.
3. File - Save As - (choose OpenDocument Spreadsheet Template .ots from the 'type' options) name your sheet whatever... ie: mydefault.ots and save.
The 'mydefault.ots' location does not need to be in the OpenOffice directory as you would do with xl... it can just be saved in your home folder.
4. Go to File - Templates - Organize
5. Select the 'My Templates' directory so it is coloured, right click it and select 'Import Template' from the pop up menu.
6. navigate to your mydefault.ots (or whatever you called it) and select 'Open'. Now your mydefault.ots will be in the My Templates directory.
7. Double click to open the My Templates directory, right click your mydefault.ots and select 'Set As Default Template'

Now when you restart Calc this will be the new default that it will open to.

If you ever want to change back to Calc's standard 3 sheet template
1. File - Templates - Organize - My Templates - mydefault.ots then right click and choose "Reset Default Template" --> Spreadsheet.

M

Thanks! That solved the problem. However, is there a way to adjust number of sheets at the level of settings? Like in MS Excel? Not at the "lower" level of template.

If I find another solution I'll let you know here.
