Database record sometimes failing to enter into table

Asked by Chris West

A record is made and saved; form letters based on that record are printed, but the record has not been saved to the table, and when I return to the database for further work, the record has vanished. I have tried 'saving' the record, then making a minor change and saving again, but that doesn't work. This problem only occurs occasionally.

Hello Marco - I am using 0penOffice.org database. I'm afraid I am only a
user and know very little about the intestines of this database.

Chris,

How exactly are you adding records to the database? Do you have a form, or are you simply opening the database table and trying to manually type data into the table fields?
If you can try to explain the process of what you do in step by step that will help.

Thanks
Paul

Hello Paul. I open the records then new record, fill it in and save,
whereupon the 'save' icon greys out so I assume, mostly correctly, that
the record is saved to the table. Having saved the record, I open a form
letter and select, from the list (table?)that comes on screen, the
record I have just filled in, and print the form letter. Later, I
discover the table does not include the last entry and the record has
disappeared. I think, if somewhere I had inadvertently deleted the
record I would have been asked if I meant to delete. This has not
happened. I hope this helps, and thank you for giving this problem some
time.
Regards
Chris

if the problem occurs occasionally, i suspect there is a problem with your hard drive. try saving something again, then go check the date and time of when it was modified. if the date and time does not change, then your hard drive is faulty.

also, if you're saving to a removable device, such as a usb drive, make sure that you click on "safely remove drive" before you unplug it.
