when will a more current version be available?

hi-

i'm just curious when a newer version might be available in the package repository? at approx 2.5 years old, version 2.4.31 is starting to age a bit

I suggest you report a bug. If the bug and security fixes are significant then it will be updated. As long as the version of the package is not dead then it will remain. A package is "starting to age a bit" is not grounds to upgrade a package, especially in the LTS releases.

my question was not an attempt to get an updated version. it's a question for the package maintainer[s]. is there a particular plan for when the next update might be done, and if so, what might that be? alternatively, if there's not one, and it's open ended, it would simply be of some value to understand that.
