The OpenJDK 8 on Ubuntu is which flavour - Oracle OpenJDK 8 or RedHat Open JDK 8?
With end of Java 8 updates by Oracle since Jan 2019, we want to migrate to an Open JDK 8. But I am confused as to which Open JDK 8 should we migrate to.
- I read in various forums that Red Hat will provide FREE updates of Open JDK 8 to its customers (those with RHEL subscription) until June 2023.
- I also read in a forum that Ubuntu will provide FREE updates of Open JDK 8 to its customers (those with Ubuntu subscription) until April 2021.
Now I am confused - which Open JDK 8 are both these Operating System Vendors talking about?
Is Red Hat talking about Open JDK 8 build from Red Hat (i.e. Red Hat Open JDK 8) ?
Is Ubuntu talking about Open JDK 8 build from Ubuntu (i.e. Ubuntu Open JDK 8? Does Ubuntu Open JDK 8 exist?)
Can someone help clear my confusion?
