Tb4 docking system instability

Asked by Rakin Baten

I recently received a brand new thinkpad x1 extreme gen 5 to replace my gen 1 machine, as well as 2 new thinkpad thunderbolt 4 workstation docks. I'm currently using Ubuntu 22.04 with kernel Linux 5.17.0-1035-oem and nvidia-driver-535. When I dock my laptop, my bluetooth mouse stops responding and I lose internet connectivity. Terminal commands like "sudo systemctl restart bluetooth" leave me with a blinking cursor in terminal and the entire system just becomes unusable. The only solution is to force restart the laptop with the dock plugged in.

During the process of updating kernels through mainline, I realized the purpose of the oem kernel and thought it would be a good idea to bring this to the attention of the oem devs. I don't know where the issue could be (nvidia driver, the kernel, or some obscure package?) and hoping someone can provide guidance. I've checked journalctl logs for errors but haven't caught a reproducible error log for when this problem occurs.
