Can't install new NVidia GT 610 card in my Ubuntu 11.10

I looked for this problem across this section and I couldn't find. I looked at all of Launchpad site and there were thousands of similar entries, so it would take me weeks to browse through all of them. I'm fairly new to the Linux/Ubuntu world.

I have Ubuntu 11.10 installed. I didn't install or uninstall anything on this computer except for updates.
I also have onboard Intel graphics.
I saw that I have Nouveau installed, and that should have taken care of it.
When I go to system settings->additional drivers, it's empty. I don't know if it's normal but that's what it is.

I installed the new NVidia GT 610 and I got a blank screen. No matter what interface- VGA, HDMI or DVI.
The BIOS recognized the new card but not Ubuntu.
Help.

Hi ,
do not struggle with Ubuntu 11.10 it will be EOL in few months (April).

Install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (support until 2017) or Ubuntu 12.10 (the newest non-LTS version).

After you install successfully newer Ubuntu version , install Nvidia proprietary drivers (nvidia-current)
or post back again for further help.

Been there, done that. I installed 12.04 when it first came out and it crashed on me every day!

try 12.10 and install proprietary nvidia driver from software sources, additional drivers......

You said "I installed 12.04 when it first came out" , well ... when a version is so new , then some bugs maybe exits .. but Long Term Support releases (like 12.04) have a characteristic .. stability. So I suggest you to try again.

That's very nice guys. I'll stick with the saying "don't change a winning horse".
I'm sure there's a solution for Ubuntu 11.10. I'm just not Ubuntu savvy to find that out.
