asus-notebook always switches internal num-pad on during boot

Asked by Jori Gel

I'm using Asus notebooks as ltsp-clients. It works fine, but during boot they are always switching the internal num-pad on. So this is really irritating. I had alkisg(from ltsp(epoptes) have a look at this and he told me:

--- begin
[13:52] <alkisg> piet: no, it's not related to LTSP, file a bug against numlockx
[13:52] <alkisg> The file you're looking for is there: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/55numlockx
[13:52] <alkisg> That's part of the numlockx package, not of LTSP
[13:53] <alkisg> Tell them to try to detect the keyboard type before turning on the numlock, to not do it in laptops etc
[13:54] <alkisg> From their changelog:
[13:54] <alkisg> Someone that does NOT want NumLock to be enabled by X11 initialization
[13:54] <alkisg> scripts does NOT need this package (Closes: #202045, #202046).
[13:55] <alkisg> So just mention in these bug reports that we do want the package because we have many clients booting from the same chroot but we don't want it to function on laptops
--- end

nothing to add from my side. It'll be nice You having a look at this, if You find time for it :)

Is there an option in BIOS to turn it off?

oh yes indeed, and it works. Didn't expect that. Thank You, that'll be a workaround for me . . .

but just to point it out: this way a booting (notebook-)system via ltsp with numlockx and default bios settings behaves different than a standalone ubuntu (same hardware, same software, same settings). The chroot is used to boot plenty of systems to boot from that image. This way You have to manipulate every (asus-)client's bios. That'll be ok for me, but he pleased me to point that out for You . . . may be for open questions concerning this You get in contact with him directly?

thanks folks, that helped me a lot
