network manager applet not working properly in ubuntu 9.04

I just updated to 9.04 and getting problem. The network manager applet is not working normal. In 8.04 i make the connection for mobile broadband and every time i have to just left click to connect it, but in 9.04 the option is not coming. I have to unplug and then replug the USB Modem to get Auto Mobile Broadband CDMA connection. This is not good to each time to un-plug and then re-plug the modem. Why the option to connect donot come when i restart the system with the plugged modem and it force me to unplug to get the option to connect.
Kindly guide me ,so that i donot need to unplug the modem on every restart and the default option to connect device be there on applet.

i have update the Nvidia graphic drive that was not available in 8.04, due to this some problem in network manager applet?

Also i am not able to disconnect the connection by left clicking to the icon and then clicking to disconnect as i used to in 8.04.
I used computer janitor to clean the system after i updated to 9.04 from 8.04 at that time it displayed a .dev package and i deleted, may be due to that this problem is happening.
I really want to solve this.. When i want to connect the option is not there and when i want to disconnect the option is there but not responding.

solution is to keep the computer in suspend mode and then again start it. Upon starting, the USB Modem will be recognize by the ubuntu 9 and get the normal connection option in the system tray.
This experiment help's me and will other also...

Yes, that would be A solution, but it can never be THE solution! THE solution would be being able to completely shut the system down and then rely upon it re-connecting correctly after boot.

Allow me to tell a little story. I installed Xubuntu last night. This afternoon I pressed the power button and went to "wash my hands". Imagine my surprise when I found that the rascal had re-connected my constantly connected 3G Huawei e220 modem in the meantime!
As it turns out, the Ubuntu Jaunty live CD can do it, the Xubuntu Jaunty live CD can do it, Mandriva 2009.1 can do it, and Xubuntu Jaunty can do it.

I have spent considerable time searching the Internet for solutions, I have found a few, implemented some of them, but to no avail.

I am now about to install Xubuntu.

right-click on network-manager icon > edit connections > Mobile Broadband
select the "Auto Mobile..." entry from the list and click on Edit
uncheck "connect automatically" and apply
click on close button and done

For connecting left-click on Network-Manager icon & then click on "Auto Mobile Broadband CDMA Connection"

for disconnecting click on "Mobile Broadband CDMA connection" (just above the "disconnection" option).

ie for both connecting and disconnecting, have to click on "Auto Mobile Broadband CDMA Connection"

Hope it will also work for you, i'm also using USB Modem (Tata Indicom) on jaunty (9.04)

My final solution was to cave in and invest part of my pension in a router. I found a cheap one on the Internet, and the connection has worked a treat ever since.
