Why libnetcdf.a in libnetcdf-dev package is not available in xenial 16.04 LTS ?

Hi,

I'm french and this is the first time that I submit a question on "launchpad",
but I'm an old user of netcdf and now netcdff libraries on Linux machine and also HPC.

My question is contained in the title :

Why libnetcdf.a file (static version of the library) is not available in the package libnetcdf-dev in xenial 16.04 LTS ?

It was present in the trusty 14.04LTS package.
And in the libnetcdff-dev package (netcdf interface for Fortran) you could find also in xenial 16.04 LTS distribution a libnetcdff.a.

If someone could help me on this subject I will be grateful.
