Is it possible to send 3g mobile broadband SMS in Ubuntu 10.1 netbook remix?

Asked by Mark Owen

In Windows operating systems 3g mobile broadband (HUAWEI 1550 dongle) installs a 'dashboard' which allows SMS to be sent and received. In Ubuntu 10.1 netbook remix, although connection to 3g is excellent, the 'dashboard' does not appear. Is there a way to send and receive 3g mobile broadband SMS in Ubuntu?

In the user guide, the software can be used by Windows and Mac users but there is no mention of Linux. Do I really need to reinstall Windows 7 to use this feature? I'd rather stick with UBUNTU if at all possible.

Solved the problem of sending SMS via the Huawei 1550 dongle (3G mobile broadband) by using Wammu in the Ubuntu Software Centre - the wizard recognised the USB modem and allowed me to send and receive text messages.
Pity that 3G do not provide the dashboard software for Linux.
