LO Writer freezes again

Asked by Aart Keijzer

This question I have raised before under the number 241892. I have not found the question anymore in the list.

Summary:
I use 12.04 LTS -32bitswith standard software installation (Libre Office, Thunderbird, Firefox). Using the computer for desktop work. The issue that I will describe below has occured before. It concerns freezing/ going "dark" of LO when opening .odt files.
Solved the issue at the time by creating new user-account and copying the files to the new account.

Symptoms:
Libre Office freezes when opening .odt files. LO gets "dark". Almost 100% CPU usage. All LO applications go "dark". Need to force to quit to get rid of the problem. Re-opening the file gives the same result. Problem does not occur in other than LO Writer. LO Calc works fine.
Another symptom that occurs (also before) is that LO Writer stops responding on the buttons in the Unity bar. LO Calc does not has this problem. So if 3 LO Writer files are open in the same workspace, LO Writer stops responding when pressing on the LO Writer symbol in the Unity bar. Normally this would show the three files next to one another to select one.
If at the same moment a LO Calc file is open, LO Calc continues responding to pressing on the LO Calc button on the Unity bar.
Is this symptom linked?

Earlier solution:
At the time I noticed that this occured only in my user-account (with standard rights). When copying the file to another account the problem did not occur anymore. So the solution that I have used is to copy the files from the user-account where the problem occured to a new account (also with standard rights). Changing ownership gave control over the files again.
So this solved my problem. The same files that "freezed" LO writer reacted normal again.

Drawback of this solution that a lot of configurations/logins etc. have to be done again.
My backup engine had to re-backup all files again as the paths had changed

Today:
Now we are about three months after the above described solution and the same behavior starts to reproduce. So I had to make a new user-account again. This time I have not copied my files, but left them in the old user-account. I have changed their ownership and authorized acces by the new account. Works fine again. Problem does not occur anymore.
So problem and solution are reproducible.

Thought:
I have the strong feeling that the problem is user-account related. An error that occurs in one of the "hidden" files in the home directory.
The solution that I use is little elegant. Not really a thought to have to "fly" every x months to a new user account.

Some info:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - completely up to date
so
Libre Office 3.5.7.2

output when starting LO in terminal:

Have you checked online to see what your error means?

For reference purposes a link to the older question https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/241892

I just wanted to propose deleting the ~/.config/libreoffice/ as another workaround to avoid the need to create a new user account every few months, but that hint was already contained in the older question.

Thanks for reacting.

Online research did not give anything concluding.
The GLib-GObject keyword gets info about Phyton out of Google.

Deleting ~/.config/libreoffice has been tried before, has been tried this time and does not change anything in the behavior.

So, I'm kind of stuck.

This issue is recurring and therefor expected to happen again.

A little thought. The file that freezes, opens without any problem in a new user account (standard rights). So a conclusion can be that the problem should be in the .hiddenfiles of the profile where the problem occurs.
"Deleting" the ~/.config/libreoffice folder makes LO to create a new ~/.config/libreoffice. I "deleted" this folder by adding something to its name.

If the problem is a corrupted file in the user account (.hiddenfiles) than detecting the file/folder would be helpful. Perhaps by deleting the affected file, makes the system create the file again and solves the problem.

What folders are interesting in this context to disable (delete)?

Looked into the system monitor and opened the window "open files" of the soffice.bin process.

Researched the file /home/europar/.xsession-errors

This file shows the earlier mentions in the terminal when freezing LO writer by opening the file.
But this file gives some more messages. Mentionning LO again. Below the text in the file:
