Install Google Earth

Asked by Matryem

Hi! I have jus installed ubuntu desktop, and so far I am very pleased! However, I have downloaded java (bin) to the desktop and despite following the installation (sudo etc.) instructions, it will not install

The system keeps telling me no such file or directory. I have vreated a /java folder in /usr. I have even tried cut and paste to move the file to the java folder, but it just tells me I don't have permission. I am the only user, please help?

Hello,

I have a better solution for you which is easy and installs not just java but flash and other things too.

It is a tool and it is called EasyUbuntu

Woops! I spoke to soon. When I saw what I thought was the java and flash plugins loading ok, I thought "Yes! that's it". Well sorry to say I was wrong. I still cannot see java stuff on the web. Java went through the motions, but when it camr to the crunch, still no joy.

I got it to install ok, I mean that it went through all the data like the long agreement and all that. Flash went much the same but without the long user agreement. It's just that afterwards there is no difference to my web site wiewing.

" Additional plugins are required to view all the media on this page"

Where am I going wrong?

For the Java plugin, you should need to install the packages sun-java5-plugin and sun-java5-fonts; for the flash plugin, flashplugin-nonfree. Before installing these you should remove whatever you installed manually, since it might get in the way. Also remember that you need to close all browser windows before the new plugins can be recognized.

Got the Java installed and running now thanks! Just one more point: Is there a problem with Flash Plugins?

If I access my domain server and look at flash programs I have, they run OK!

If I open my web page in a browser, the flash doesn't run.

but thanks again: java was a nightmare
