desktop icons dissappeared, file browser icons can not be reinstalled on desktop

Binary package hint: nautilus

desktop icons (folders, external hard drive icons) have dissappeared. icons are located in "desktop-file brower" i can not drag folders from "desktop-file brower" back on to desktop.
i have also lost "right click" ability on desktop screen.

Try this, open a terminal and type

nautilus

press enter.

If that restores it, Go to System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications
and add nautilus as a workaround for this issue.

Please tell do you mean the places menu is disappeared from main menu...?

if yes: right click with mouse on the top toolbar select "Add to panel..." then from the opened window select "Menu Bar"

thank you guys for the quick response & time. i really appreciate it! for some reason today, everything popped back up as normal. if this symptom occurs again, i will try the suggestions.

how do you start Nautilus no icons?
