unable to read data disk in drive

Desktop icon says Blank CD-R disc and will not open. Disk has MS Word text
and MS Excel spreadsheet data OS is Ubuntu 9.04

Hi John

How was the CD created? On this machine or another? What was that machine & its OS? What software was used to write the CD? Do you have a machine that can see the contents of the CD?

Pls give us this information andanything else that may be useful/relevant.
