Hello,

has your user the permission to auto-mount ?
You can check, go to System->Administration->User and Groups
Click on the user then properties
Go to "User Privileges" tab
Be sure that "Access external storage devices automatically is checked"

I've got this problem with PSP too. It sees the computer, but the computer doesn't 'see' it, i.e. can't mount it. When I plug it in and turn it into USB mode, it shows in 'My computer' menu, but when i try to mount it I get the message:
Unable to mount media.
There is probably no media in the device.

Here's what i get with fdisk -l command:

$ sudo fdisk -l
Password:

Disk /dev/sda: 60.0 GB, 60011642880 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7296 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 1447 11622996 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 1448 7296 46982092+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
Partition 3 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda5 2216 7169 39792973+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda6 7170 7296 1020096 82 Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda7 1448 2215 6168897 83 Linux

Partition table entries are not in disk order

So it seems that PSP is not found with fdisk.
Though lsusb finds it:

$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 015: ID 054c:02d2 Sony Corp.
...

I did everything suggested by troubleshooting here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PSP but patching the kernel (i am scared to recompile kernel...) What else could I try?

[1010312.536000] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
[1010317.536000] usb-storage: device scan complete

[1010317.536000] sd 16:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0
