Why do you want change ownership? I cannot understand your problem, if you mount hdb as root (sudo) you have to use it with root privilege (sudo).
If it isnt in the fstab you can insert it by "sudo vi /etc/fstab" create a directory to mount it and adjust it to fstab.

Hello !

If you want to access data on your drives, here is the information you need:

1) Which partitions do you have (and want to access) ? (use gparted or fdisk to tell)

2) Which filesystem is used on these partitions ? (ext3, FAT, NTFS, .....)

Well, it's about all ... As michelem said, then you just have to edit fstab ...

If help is needed to process these steps (info gathering and fstab editing), feel free to ask !

Regards,
Benoît

sorry very new, i can edit fstab, but not sure what to enter to get access to the drives

Regards and much thanks for your patience

P.S. I want the second drive to store stuff instead of stuffing it all in the primary drive.
I worked out how to change the ownership of the drive but it dissappeared from fstab
