Why you don't install mythtv using ready made packages....

Using System->Administration->Software sources [Ubuntu software tab] please enable (Check the checkbox) all the showed repositories rows.

BTW you can also install use deb packages type to see all mythtv packages type:

aptitude search mythtv

to install desired packages type for example:

sudo aptitude install mythtv

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To install/compile by yourself mythtv from a tar file

You must use terminal. Please open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

cd
cp /media/New Volume/linux/mythtv-0.21.tar
tar xvf mythtv-0.21.tar
....

Hope this helps

You don't need to install MythTV by sources.

Just have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV. It's a really good introduction on installing MythTV on Ubuntu.

Can you help with this problem?
