If you cluck the orange folder in the left panel, you will open the file manager. You can also press ALT+F2 and run:
nautilus
And it will open.
Is this what you mean?
Thanks

Hi,
I looked at the HELP menu. I am trying to figure out how to get my iPad hooked up to my laptop. Just got a new modem with a built in Firewall & Wireless Router. Since I started this new modem and can now get online wirelessly I cannot connect my iPad to the laptop. Will not allow it. I am fairly sure all I would need to do is put in the iPads IP address if I could find the right place to put it. Help Menu said to open up the File Manager. But, I did not know where to look. I just would like to be able to connect to the same Wireless Network as the laptop with the iPad so I can transferr files when needed.

If younrun:
ifconfig
You can see the Ubuntu system's IP. You can then connect to that IP using an SFTP client on your iPad. You will be connecting securely. If you port forward port 22 on your router to the Ubuntu PC you can connect over the web to the same server and securely.

Hi,
By Ubuntu system's IP, I am assuming you mean the IP Address that shows when I click Connection Information.
I don't know what you mean by "then connect to that IP
> using an SFTP client on your iPad."
Also don't know where to locate "

Yes, whatever shows your IP of your computer. You can install an SFTP client using the Apple iStore or whatever Apple uses to install programs with.

Did a Google search for a SFTP client for the iPad. Came up with a long list. Choose a free one that is suppose to do the job - FtpOnConnect that covers several kinds including SFTP. It also has Dropbox. Not sure how to program it. It has a SFTP Private Key List. When tapped this gives you two choices.
1. Support for the encrypted RSA and DSA OpenSSL/OpenSSH authentication key file. (.pem._rsa,_dsa)
2. Select the file (.pem, _rsa,_dsa) in the Documents folder. Press the Action button and select [Add to private key list].
This is all well and good but I still cannot get on the same WiFI as the laptop. There is a Setting which has the above in it. Will try to get it going tomorrow. Late tonight. Thanks for the info and will get back to you.

You don't need any files. Just your username and password.

If your ipad cannot get on the same wifi as your laptop then you will need support with your ipad. There are Apple forums all over the web or take it to the Apple store for a demo.

Thanks. I have found out that all this still does not help to connect to the same Internet connection as the laptop. Did discover that there are 2 higher versions of Ubuntu so doing a upgrade to the next one up. Suppose to be done soon.
