My computer keeps freezing with Ubuntu 12.04

My hard drive had been partitioned with part used for Windows and the rest used for Ubuntu but I kept getting error messages indicating I was running out of disc space. I reloaded Ubuntu 12.04 to use the whole of the disc but since then the computer keeps freezing so I have to switch off by hand and then restart.

Have you tried the 2D session which is selectable on the login screen?

Thanks the 2D session seems to be working ok. Will I need to log on this way every time.
