Different display of Tree and Places

Asked by Franz

My 2 additional, internal, HDDs are itemised in \View\Sidebar\Places after I boot, however I prefer to use Tree view - that's where they do not appear.
That is, until I maually select these HDDs one by one from Places in the Launcher.

Ubuntu 12.04

Thats because nautilu mounts the partitions when you click them. If you add an entry in /etc/fstab they will mount at boot and be accessible in treeview.

Thanks. Apologies for late response.

What you say is, of course, true.
I wasn't clear enough defining the problem: its not with Nautilus.

I used to see devices on the Desktop when they were mounted.

Inserting a USB drive, an SD card an external HD and all other internal HDs created a shortcut on the desktop which I liked for a number of reasons.

This feature disappeared after one of the latest kernel updates in October (for me at least)

Then that has nothing to do with trees or anything. Why did you not just use the plain language you used above rather than trying to sound technical and not explain the issue correctly?

Are you using Unity shell? If so then mounted file systems appear on the launcher at the bottom. Do you see them there?

If you are not using Unity, or even Gnome, let us know and we can advise

Sorry about my choice of words.

I prefer to use Gnome classic with panels.

Thanks again
Franz
